ANU InSpace 2023 - Our year in pictures
It’s been a big year for ANU InSpace! We hosted and attended over two dozen meetings, events, and conferences. We networked with hundreds of people involved in the space sector from academia, industry, government, and the community. We welcomed three new Business Development Managers onto our team. We won awards and honours and continued our commitment to be leading advocates for space research.

ANU Quantum Optical Ground Station launches
Congratulations to the ANU Optical Communications Team, led by Associate Professor Francis Bennet, on the launch of the ANU Quantum Optical Ground Station on 6 December. The ANU Quantum Optical Ground Station was opened by The Australian National University Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Brian Schmidt AC, and the ACT Chief Minister, Andrew Barr.

ACT Government launches ACT Space Update 2023 + SmartSat CRC funding
The ACT Government launched their ACT Space Update 2023, which acknowledges Canberra's long history of space mission success and focuses on establishing Canberra as Australia’s gateway to space. $1.3 million win for OzFuel - one of the two new research projects to be co-funded by SmartSat CRC and the ACT Government.

ANU student's experiment to be tested by ISS astronauts
Congratulations to The Australian National University PhD student Shingo Nishimoto for winning the Asian Try Zero-G competition. His experiment will investigate angular momentum perturbations and change of chopsticks in microgravity.

Heavy Ion Accelerators celebrates their 50th anniversary
Happy birthday to the 14UD particle accelerator! On the 15th of August, 1973, the first beam tests of the 14UD Tandem Accelerator were conducted. An analysed beam of protons was successfully obtained, marking the beginning of half a century of world-leading scientific investigation.

ANU InSpace named Academic Institute of the Year at 2023 Australian Space Awards
On 17 May 2023, the ANU InSpace team traveled to Sydney to attend the Australian Space Summit and Space Awards, hosted by Space Connect, at the International Convention Centre in scenic Darling Harbour. We were honoured to be named Academic Institute of the Year, along with other awards for our team members.
