Mount Stromlo Observatory celebrated 100th Anniversary

Last week marked a historic moment for space research in Australia. The Mount Stromlo Observatory celebrated its 100th Anniversary. In 1924, the Commonwealth Solar Observatory was established on Mount Stromlo. Today, Mount Stromlo Observatory is the headquarters of the ANU Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics (RSAA) and for 100 years has been a world-renowned community of researchers exploring the heavens.

Huge congratulations to The Australian National University, the largest contributor of abstracts to this year's IAC2024. Seven ANU academics have had a total of nine abstracts accepted into this year's IAC - 14-18 October in Milan - and two of these contributors are our own ANU InSpace Business Development Managers, Anupam Kumar Pilli and Natasha Disha.

Chris recently attended a series of thought-provoking sessions at the ANU Department of Pacific Affairs' flagship event, the State of the Pacific Conference. This was a fantastic opportunity to learn from world-leading scholars and practitioners of Pacific geopolitics and governance. The discussions covered the ongoing legacies of colonialism, self-determination movements, and efforts to build inclusive political systems across the Pacific. The conference also explored in great detail the evolving influence of global powers, digital infrastructure development, and the strategic implications of the AUKUS defence pact.

Three Aussie-made and NSQN-tested CubeSats are launching as part of SpaceX’s Transporter-11 mission

This is a historic moment for Australia in space. Three Aussie-made and NSQN-tested CubeSats are launching as part of SpaceX’s Transporter-11 mission. ANU InSpace Mission Specialist Eduardo Trifoni and his team at the National Space Test Facility (NSTF) have worked tirelessly for the past few years to ensure the safety and success of these launches, as well as three others (Binar-2, 3, and 4) which have recently arrived at the International Space Station and will soon be deployed in orbit. NSTF is one of the ANU space capabilities at Mount Stromlo and a node of the National Space Qualification Network (NSQN).
