Meet the two remarkable ANU scientists who have been elected as Fellows of The Australian Academy of Science in 2025 in recognition of their outstanding contribution to science.
Professor Mark Howden is a globally known climate scientist. He has shaped national and international climate policy through his work on climate adaptation, greenhouse gas inventories development and developing informed pathways for emissions reduction. A key contributor to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), Professor Howden shared the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize with other IPCC participants and Al Gore.
Professor Robert Mahony, FAA, FIEEE from the ANU School of Engineering has wide-spanning research interests in non-linear control theory with applications in robotics, geometric optimisation techniques, and systems theory. He was one of the trailblazers in the development of aerial robotic vehicles and an early contributor to the drone industry. He works closely with open-source code communities and is committed to higher degree research education.
Congratulations to Mark and Robert on their exceptional achievements!
