Last week marked a historic moment for space research in Australia. The Mount Stromlo Observatory celebrated its 100th Anniversary.
In 1924, the Commonwealth Solar Observatory was established on Mount Stromlo. Today, Mount Stromlo Observatory is the headquarters of the ANU Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics (RSAA) and for 100 years has been a world-renowned community of researchers exploring the heavens.
ANU InSpace Director, Professor Anna Moore FTSE, presented on "Instrumentation for Space" at the 100th Anniversary Symposium last Wednesday.
"I was honoured to talk about my time as Director of the Advanced Instrumentation and Technology Centre, and more generally about the impact instrumentation has had in the broader space sector," Anna said. "Australia’s journey in optical communications and infrared arrays for bushfire fuel measurement, for example, can be traced directly to innovative concepts born out of the Observatory."
Happy Anniversary, Mount Stromlo, and many congratulations to the RSAA Team for this grand celebration!
