Junichiro Kawaguchi is a Professor at the School of Engineering. During his career, Junichiro has participated in several solar system exploration projects, including Japan’s first planetary probes to Halley’s Comet, the lunar orbiter Hiten, the Hayabasa Mission for which we was Project Manager from 1996-2011, and Hayabasa-2 Mission for which he currently holds an Official Advisor position. Junichiro is Founder of Ikaros, the world’s first Solar Sail demonstrator project, launched in 2010. He has previously been a Senior Fellow for Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), President of the Japan Society for Space and Astronautical Science, Fellow at the Japan Society for Space and Astronautical Science, and he has served on the Board of Trustees at the International Academy of Astronautics.
